Development staff members assist in planning the
approach to external funding to ensure strong,
competitive proposals and the success of the award
projects.
The following is a general list of tips to help
you obtain funding for your project. More detailed
information is found on many Internet sites listed
on our Links page.
Start with an innovative project idea consistent
with the College's strategic goals.
Start early to allow adequate time for planning,
building partnerships, drafting revisions, and
attending to all the details.
Organize a strong team of experts and innovators
excited about your idea who are willing to help
achieve your goals.
Research your funding organization and know
as much about it as possible.
Read examples of proposals the funding organization
has funded.
Thoroughly understand the funding guidelines
and meticulously follow the directions. Don't
let a good idea go unfunded because you forget
a step.
Address each criterion used to evaluate the
proposal.
Establish measurable outcomes that are used
to evaluate project success.
Invest time in planning activities and strategies
to reach grant goals.
Establish strong and effective relationships
with any grant partners.
Plan for financial sustainability after grant
funding expires.
Know your target end-user.
