Word Problems Involving Decimals (including percents)

  1. A survey shows that 420 out of 500 people who work in a building drive their own automobile to work. What percent of the people in the building do not drive their own car to work?

  2. The U.S. Olympic Team voted on the dominate color for their warm-up suits. Fifteen percent preferred red, forty-five percent preferred white and the rest preferred blue. If 260 team members voted, how many preferred blue?

  3. After a suit was reduced by 25%, its price was $360. What was the price before the reduction?

  4. A department store sells a cordless phone at regular price for $150. The puts the phone on sale at a 20% discount. After one week, the store discounts the sales price an additional 15%. What percent has the original price been reduced after both discounts?
