Word Problems Involving Units of Measurement and Conversions

  1.  A map uses the scale 5 miles per inch. If the distance between two cities is two yards on the map, how far are they apart in actual miles? 

  2. A builder sells houses at a price of $70 per square foot. How much would this builder sell a 240 square yard house for?

  3. Water accidentally left running flowed from a faucet at a rate of 5 mL per second. If the faucet was shut off after running for 8 hours, how many liters of water were lost? 

  4. A cell phone company’s customer exceeds his monthly minutes allowed by 2.3 hours. If the cell phone company charges 25 cents for each minute over the allowed minutes, how much will the customer be billed for the additional minutes?
