This scholarship program was created in 1999 by the Erin Tierney Kramp Endowment
Foundation, in memory of Erin Tierney Kramp. Erin, a 33 year old wife, mother, and
venture capitalist, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. As she had during her
successful business career, Erin applied her considerable intellectual resources and
passion for excellence to fight her disease, preparing a video-taped legacy of advice for
her young daughter, and communicating her very personal experience of Lining with the
End in Mind (the title of the book she wrote) to a wide audience. Erin’s story was so
compelling, that her opportunities to tell it continually gained momentum. Many people
saw and heard Erin on national radio and television shows such as 20/20, Oprah
Winfrey and Focus on the Family. Now, the scholarship program is one more way for
Erin’s life to continue to make a difference in the lives of others. The recipient of the
Erin Tierney Kramp Encouragement Scholarship will possess high moral character, will
have demonstrated leadership and scholastic excellence, and will have shown courage
and perseverance in the face of adversity, all of which will honor Erin’s memory.

Amount of Award Up to $2,800 each ($700 per semester for up to four semesters)

Number of awards/yr. Varies, as per available funds (5 – 10 per year)

Criteria Applicants must exemplify courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. Applicants must also demonstrate moral character with leadership and scholarship qualities as evidenced by high academic standards. Applicants must also have a high school diploma.

Application Process Applicants must submit the following:

  • Complete DCCCD Foundation Scholarship Application form
  • Essay of 500 words or less explaining why he or she deserves this scholarship, including description of hardship and how they persevered. It should also include a clear statement of academic goals, career plans, and financial need.
  • Letters of recommendation from high school counselor, principal, teacher, or clergy plus
  • Two additional personal references supporting the recommendation
    High school or college transcript


Requirements Recipients must maintain a high academic standard throughout their college career (3.0 GPA) and successfully compete a minimum of 8 credit hours per semester. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss of scholarship benefits.
